An Ace for the Books!
Making a Hole-in-One is quite an impressive feat, and something you’ll remember for the rest of your life. One of our members has a quite special story to share about her ace in our annual Helen Lengfeld (Founders) Tournament. This year’s event was held on October 6th and 7th at Del Monte and Laguna Seca Golf Courses.
During round 2 of the tournament, Regena Lauterbach made
a hole in one on hole number 14, from 115 yards out! Doing this is so
impressive, but the story behind it is even more heartwarming. Regena explained
to us about one of the starters at her home course, Del Monte.
“Our starter at Del Monte
is named Sal. He always draws smiley faces on the top of the tees and other
symbols for other holidays. Each time I am at a par three I always use his tees
for good luck and know that Sal is with me. He is going through chemo for
cancer right now, but the last time I saw him I told him I was going to take
one of his smiley tees and get a hole in one for him.
We were on the last hole and I wasn't thinking about anything but finishing the round. Of course, I used Sal's tee. I didn't see the ball go in the hole, but heard it. When I email Sal and thanked him for his help, he said he had never had a hole in one. I told him to start using his tees!”
